Delta Force Rover Guide: Clover, Dart Rifle & Modes
How Rover's dog Clover, Dart Rifle and Irritant work in Delta Force, what differs between Operations and Warfare, and the September 17 buffs.
By TopBuilds Team
Rover, the Support operator added in Season Reorientation, plays differently from every other healer in Delta Force. He fights through a dog, and half of his kit changes depending on whether you are in Operations or Warfare. Here is what each part does, what changed in the September 17 update, and how to use him in both modes.
Rover at a glance
Rowan Walsh, known as Rover, is a Support operator and a free unlock on the Season 11 Season Pass. His kit has five parts:
- Man's Best Friend: calls a military dog, Clover, that fights beside you.
- Dart Rifle: a syringe weapon that creates a mist.
- Irritant: a smoke grenade that makes enemies inside it cough.
- Guard Drive (Operations): a passive that makes enemies easier to track and changes rescues.
- Prey Drive (Operations): a second passive that does the same tracking and changes rescues differently.
How Clover works
When you call Clover, she looks for enemies in range. If she finds one, she locks onto the nearest target, tackles it and applies a Mark, so your whole squad can see it. If there is nobody in range, she follows you on Alert.
That makes her a scouting and opening tool more than a damage dealer. Use her right before you push a room or a building, not to explore every corner.
The Dart Rifle: Operations vs Warfare
The Dart Rifle fires syringes that create a mist. What the mist does depends on the mode:
| Operations | Warfare | |
|---|---|---|
| Heals allies | Yes, heals injured limbs | Yes, since September 17 (7 HP per second for 8 seconds, interrupted if they take damage) |
| Hurts enemies | Reduces max HP and deals damage over time | Reduces max HP, with a direct hit and damage over time |
In Operations the healing is the headline: limb injuries are a real problem in extraction raids, and the mist fixes them without a med item. Remember that it also lowers the maximum HP of enemies it touches, so a dart into a fight does two jobs.
Guard Drive and Prey Drive (Operations)
Both passives make hit enemies easier for Clover to track and change how rescues work:
- Guard Drive: longer downed duration, and a rescue removes multiple limb-injury stacks.
- Prey Drive: a rescue resupplies the rescued ally's ammo.
Guard Drive suits you if your squad is likely to take limb damage. Prey Drive is better if fights tend to drain ammo.
The September 17 buffs
The September 17 update buffed Rover and Clover. These are the changes from the official notes:
Operations
- Man's Best Friend cooldown: 120 s to 90 s.
- Recovery time after Clover is repelled: 15 s to 12 s.
Warfare
- Man's Best Friend cooldown: 90 s to 75 s.
- Clover damage: 45 to 55.
- Dart Rifle direct-hit damage: 70 to 90.
- Dart Rifle area damage over time: 7 to 13.
- New: the Dart Rifle mist heals allies in the area for 7 HP per second for 8 seconds.
How to play him in Operations
- Open fights with Clover. She marks the nearest enemy, and with a 90 second cooldown you can usually have her back for the next room.
- Dart your own squad when someone is hurt. The mist repairs injured limbs, so save your med items.
- Pick your drive by squad. Guard Drive when you expect to heal and rescue a lot, Prey Drive when you want rescued teammates back at full ammo.
- Use Irritant to cover a push or a retreat. Enemies inside the smoke start coughing.
For comparison, Vlinder's UAV rescue heal was raised from 20 to 50 in the same season, so if you only want pure healing, check whether Vlinder fits your squad better. Rover is the choice when you also want the marking and the dog.
How to play him in Warfare
Warfare changes the job. Most of the September 17 buffs landed there, so Clover and the Dart Rifle are your damage tools:
- Use Clover (now 55 damage, 75 second cooldown) to find and mark players holding a point.
- Dart enemies for the stronger direct hit and damage over time, then fall back and let the mist heal teammates.
- Use Drag Rescue, which every operator has in Warfare: drag a downed ally to cover, then revive.
Best weapons for Rover
Our current picks are the K416 and MCX LT in Operations, and the Thompson and SMG-45 in Warfare. The Thompson is new this season, so treat it as a strong but still developing pick. You can find his full page with abilities and weapon links on the Rover operator page.
Quick answers
- Is Rover free? Yes, he is a free unlock on the Season Pass.
- Does the dog attack every enemy? She locks onto the nearest enemy in range and marks it. With nobody in range she follows you.
- Does the Dart Rifle heal in both modes? Yes. In Operations it heals injured limbs; in Warfare it heals over time since the September 17 update.
