WoW Forever Professions

WoW Forever keeps the Classic professions but gives each one a personal perk and adds a camping system, where professions build camp objects that buff the whole group. Here's what every profession does, which two go well together, and what to pick for your class.

Updated October 10, 2026 · based on the beta, values may change at launch

All professions

Gathering

Collect raw materials. Each one also gives a passive bonus in Forever.

Crafting

Turn materials into gear and consumables. You can have two primary professions.

Secondary

Every character can learn all three on top of their two primaries.

Best profession pairs

The safest pairs combine a gathering profession with the crafting profession it supplies, so you never have to buy materials. The exceptions are Tailoring and Enchanting, which need no gatherer, and double gathering for gold.

  • Best endgame pair

    MiningEngineering

Engineering uses a lot of ore and Mining supplies all of it. You also get Mining's 5% health bonus. Bombs and gadgets are some of the strongest tools in PvP.

Good for: PvP and raiding, almost any class

  • Best for plate wearers while leveling

    MiningBlacksmithing

You mine your own metal, craft your own weapons and armor, and get Repair All plus a Strength camp buff. The extra 5% health makes it a strong tank combination too.

    Good for: Warriors and Paladins

  • Best for raiders and healers

    HerbalismAlchemy

Herbalism supplies every herb Alchemy needs. Your own elixirs and flasks last twice as long and work 25% better, and Herbalism adds magic resistance on top.

Good for: Healers, Druids, Shamans and anyone who raids weekly

  • Best for leather and mail wearers

    SkinningLeatherworking

Every beast you kill becomes material. Skinning adds damage against beasts and dragonkin, and the Camp Tent gives rested XP, so the pair is strong while leveling.

Good for: Rogues, Druids, Hunters and Shamans

  • Best for cloth casters

    TailoringEnchanting

Tailoring needs no gatherer because cloth drops from humanoids, and you find more of it. Disenchant what you craft to level Enchanting, then enchant your own rings.

Good for: Mages, Priests and Warlocks

  • Best for making gold

    HerbalismMining

Two gathering professions mean you sell everything you collect. You also get both passives, 5% health and magic resistance. You can switch to crafting later, but the new one starts from skill 1.

Good for: Leveling a first character, or funding alts

Best professions by class

While leveling, pick professions that make your own gear. At endgame, most players switch to the professions with the strongest personal bonus for their role. Switching resets the new profession to skill 1, so plan ahead if you want to avoid leveling one twice.

ClassLevelingEndgameWhy
WarriorBlacksmithing gives you weapon upgrades and Repair All while you level. At endgame, Engineering adds gadgets for PvP and raids, and Mining's 5% health is a big bonus for tanks.
PaladinPlate and two-handers from Blacksmithing carry Retribution through leveling. Holy Paladins should look at Herbalism and Alchemy instead for longer-lasting flasks.
HunterYou kill beasts all day and Skinning adds damage against them, while Leatherworking crafts your armor and kits. At endgame, Engineering scopes and gadgets are the usual pick.
RogueLeatherworking makes your own armor and attack power bracer kits. At endgame, Engineering's explosives and gadgets are especially strong for Rogues in PvP.
PriestTailoring makes your cloth gear and its Faction Banner adds Spirit. Enchanting turns spare drops into materials. Shadow Priests who focus on PvP can pick Engineering for its gadgets.
ShamanLeatherworking covers leather and mail while leveling. At endgame, Alchemy's stronger, longer flasks suit raid healers and Elemental Shamans.
MageTailoring and Enchanting together need no gathering. Engineering is the endgame pick for burst and utility in PvP and dungeon AoE groups.
WarlockLife Tap scales with Spirit in Forever, so Tailoring's Faction Banner is a direct bonus. Alchemy's stronger flasks are a good second profession for raiding.
DruidSkinning and Leatherworking cover your leather gear while leveling. At endgame, Alchemy's stronger, longer flasks matter most for Restoration and Balance; Feral Druids can stay with Leatherworking for armor kits.

Camping and campfires

Camping is new in Forever. A cook builds a campfire, and other players place crafted camp objects around it, one each, with a one-hour shared cooldown. Sit at the camp for a short while and you get every object's buff for one hour.

Camp buffs are slightly weaker versions of class buffs and don't stack with them. They matter most when your group is missing a class, for example when there's no Mage for Arcane Intellect.

Each profession learns three camp objects: Tier 1 from the trainer at skill 20, and Tiers 2 and 3 at 140 and 300 from blueprints, some of which drop from dungeon bosses. Each tier keeps the effects of the tiers below it.

  • Basic Campfire

    3 camp objects

Available from the start of Cooking.

  • Journeyman Campfire

    5 camp objects

    Unlocks with higher Cooking skill.

  • Expert Campfire

    10 camp objects

Unlocks near the top of Cooking.

What's new compared to Classic

  • Every gathering and crafting profession has a personal perk, such as 5% health for miners or longer, stronger flasks for alchemists.
  • The camping system: professions build camp objects that buff everyone at a campfire.
  • More than 600 new recipes across all professions.
  • A new profession window with search and filters, and recipe tracking in your objectives.
  • Reagent bags get their own bag slot and come earlier.
  • The Professions tree of the Legacy system adds account perks, such as more skill-ups and better gathering.
  • Still no Jewelcrafting or Inscription, and still a limit of two primary professions.

Reaching 150, 225 and 300 in a crafting profession also earns Legacy Points. See the Legacy system guide.

Two primary professions plus all three secondary professions. If you drop a primary profession and learn another, the new one starts from skill 1.

Two gathering professions, usually Herbalism and Mining, because you sell everything you collect. Alchemy is the steadiest crafting profession for gold, since consumables are used up every raid week.

Blizzard hasn't revealed it yet. Every other crafting profession has a personal bonus, so we expect one before launch and will update the Engineering page when it's announced.
