Hog 2.6 Cycle Deck Guide: How to Play It and Climb the Ladder
The Hog 2.6 Cycle deck in Clash Royale: the eight cards, how to play it, what it beats, and what to watch for after the October balance update.
By TopBuilds Team
Hog 2.6 Cycle is one of the most played decks on the ladder, and it's easy to see why. It's cheap, fast and hard to counter, and it rewards players who know their cycle. Here's the deck, how to play it, and how the October balance update affects it.
The deck
The classic Hog 2.6 Cycle plays these eight cards at an average cost of 2.6 elixir:
- Hog Rider: your win condition
- Musketeer: ground and air defense
- Ice Golem: a cheap tank to defend and to support Hog
- Ice Spirit: cycle and freeze
- Skeletons: cheap cycle and a distraction for big troops
- Cannon: your main building defense
- Fireball: a spell for groups and support troops
- The Log: a cheap spell for small troops and Goblin Barrel
You can swap one or two cards to match your trophy range, but this is the core.
How the deck works
The deck wins by cycling cards faster than your opponent can build a counter. Every Hog attack costs 4 elixir, but every other card costs 1 to 3, so you get Hog back in your hand quickly.
On offense: place Hog Rider, then follow with Ice Spirit or the Log to clear what the opponent plays against it. Don't keep pushing a Hog into a full-elixir counter.
On defense: use Cannon and Musketeer to hold, and use Ice Golem to defend and counter-push with Hog behind it. Skeletons and Ice Spirit help distract single big troops such as Mini P.E.K.K.A.
Tips for climbing
- Cycle first. In the first minute, your goal is to learn what your opponent's counter to Hog is. Don't overcommit elixir.
- Count elixir. Hog Rider beats a defense that has just spent its elixir. If the opponent plays an expensive card, hit them right away.
- Use the Cannon as your anchor. For only 3 elixir it handles Hog Rider, Ram Rider and Battle Ram, so you can keep your spells for support troops.
- Save Fireball and the Log. Don't use a spell on a single troop if you can use the Cannon.
What the deck is weak against
- Heavy building defense with a tank beside it can stop every Hog push.
- Splash and spell-heavy decks can punish your support troops.
- Beatdown decks with Golem or Lava Hound need you to apply pressure early, because a slow cycle can't stop them late.
October balance update
Reports on the October 2026 balance update agree that Skeletons and the Evolution Cannon were nerfed. Skeletons are your cycle card, so you should play slightly more carefully with them, and the Cannon is less reliable if you run its evolution. Hog Rider, Musketeer, Ice Golem and Fireball weren't mentioned in the reports we read, so the deck is still playable.
Balance numbers can change between patches. Check the in-game balance notes before you commit a lot of cards to a deck.
