At endgame
Miners get a 5% increase to maximum health. It's a flat survivability bonus that helps every role, which makes Mining one of the strongest gathering picks at max level.

Crafts explosives, gadgets and goggles, and is still the most popular endgame pick for PvP and raiding.

Tailoring and Enchanting together need no gathering. Engineering is the endgame pick for burst and utility in PvP and dungeon AoE groups.
Mining and Blacksmithing
Best for plate wearers while leveling
You mine your own metal, craft your own weapons and armor, and get Repair All plus a Strength camp buff. The extra 5% health makes it a strong tank combination too.
Best for raiders and healers
Herbalism supplies every herb Alchemy needs. Your own elixirs and flasks last twice as long and work 25% better, and Herbalism adds magic resistance on top.
Best for leather and mail wearers
Every beast you kill becomes material. Skinning adds damage against beasts and dragonkin, and the Camp Tent gives rested XP, so the pair is strong while leveling.
Best for making gold
Two gathering professions mean you sell everything you collect. You also get both passives, 5% health and magic resistance. You can switch to crafting later, but the new one starts from skill 1.

For leveling: Tailoring and Enchanting. At endgame: Mining and Engineering. Tailoring and Enchanting together need no gathering. Engineering is the endgame pick for burst and utility in PvP and dungeon AoE groups.
Yes, but if you drop a primary profession and learn another, the new one starts from skill 1. Plan your endgame pair early to avoid leveling a profession twice.
