WoW Forever Stress Test on October 19: Times, Who Can Join and How to Install
The free WoW Forever stress test runs on 19 October 2026. Start times by region, who can join without beta access, how to install it in Battle.net and what happens to your characters.
By TopBuilds Team

Blizzard is opening WoW Forever to everyone for a free public stress test on Monday, 19 October 2026. You do not need the beta, a subscription or an invite. This guide covers who can join, when it starts in your region, how to install it, what Blizzard wants you to do and what happens to your character afterwards. Details are current as of 17 October 2026.
The short version
- Cost and access: free, open to any player with a Battle.net account. No beta access, game time or invitation is required.
- Purpose: a server capacity test. Blizzard wants as many players online at once as possible.
- Length: not fixed. Blizzard describes it as a few hours and says it may end earlier or run later as needed.
- Characters: every character, name and guild is deleted when the test ends.
Start times
| Region | Local time | UTC |
|---|---|---|
| North America | 2:00 p.m. PDT, 19 October | 21:00 |
| Europe | 19:00 CEST, 19 October | 17:00 |
| Korea | 06:00 KST, 20 October | 21:00 on the 19th |
| Taiwan | 05:00 CST, 20 October | 21:00 on the 19th |
Realms open at the start time, so the install option may not be playable earlier. No end time has been announced.
Who can join
Anyone with a World of Warcraft account can take part, with or without an active subscription. That makes it the only way to try WoW Forever right now if you do not own the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection. Those editions are what the closed beta requires. Our beta access guide explains that route.
How to join
- Update your graphics drivers.
- Open the Battle.net desktop app and install any pending update.
- Select World of Warcraft, then open the Game Version menu.
- Choose the Forever Stress Test entry listed under In Development.
- Install it, press Play once the test begins and pick a test realm.
- Create a new character and enter the world.
You can install ahead of time, so the download is not what keeps you waiting when the realms open. There is no separate key or download link.
What Blizzard is testing
The test measures how the servers hold up under heavy load. That is why Blizzard asks players to bring friends and guilds. The most useful things you can do are the things that generate traffic:
- Create a character and complete a few quests
- Trade items and chat
- Group up with other players
- Gather in busy places such as capital cities
Expect long queues, lag and disconnects. That is the point of the test, not a sign that something is wrong with your setup.
What happens to your character
Nothing carries over. Characters, names and guilds created in the stress test are deleted before name reservations open. A name you take in the test reserves nothing for launch. If you want to protect a name, that is handled separately through name reservation, which is limited to players with an upgrade pack.
The closed beta goes offline shortly before the stress test and comes back shortly after it ends. Beta characters are not part of the stress test.
Dates around the test
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 19 October | Free stress test |
| 21 October | Last full day of the closed beta |
| 22 October | Beta ends |
| 27 October to 3 November | Early name reservation for pack owners |
| 4 November, 3:00 p.m. PST | Global launch |
Blizzard lists 21 and 22 October in different places, so plan around the earlier date. For launch times in your region, see WoW Forever launch time by timezone.
Is it worth playing?
Yes, if you want to see how the game feels before you decide whether to buy. Treat it as a short preview. Do not spend effort on a character you plan to keep, because it will not exist afterwards. If you already know which class you want to start with, use the time to try its opening levels. Not sure yet? Our class picker can narrow it down.
FAQ
Do I need a subscription? No. Blizzard says no subscription, game time or invitation is required.
Do I need beta access? No. The stress test is separate from the closed beta.
Will my progress be saved? No. All characters, names and guilds are deleted when the test ends.
How long will it last? A few hours. Blizzard has not set an end time.
Can I install it early? Yes, through the Game Version menu in Battle.net, although the realms only open at the start time.
